The Tech
Report

Most of the furniture I make is made out of Red Oak. Until recently, it was the only hardwood that I could
get at a reasonable price and with a decent selection. I have since found a supplier that has a good selection
of Oak, as well as Cherry, Walnut and other hardwoods at a reasonable price.

Almost everything I make is solid wood, with plywood used only for the bottom and back of cabinets, and the bottom of drawers.
Exceptions are the sides of cabinets that have a face frame.

The reason I do this is because of some of the joinery I do.  The oak chests below are made with a through dovetail, and I
have made a few things with a box joint. These cannot be done with plywood.  I also dovetail the drawers in most of my larger furniture.

Below are some of the projects I have done over the years. Please excuse my photography. If you are interested in having
something built,
e-mail me or call me at 701-739-6243

This is a China cabinet and hutch that I built for
my wife after many years of asking.

I built these end tables several years ago. The remote holder on the left one I added
a couple years ago. (Guess who sits by that one
smile ).  I also built the coaster sets
that are on top of the end tables.

No need to explain what this is.

I built a couple of these night stands.

I built several of these for my children, nephews, and nieces.
They are an oak chest with cedar lining.

Table I built for our phone and phone books.  Wood is mahoghony.

A couple of items I built for the Lakota community club and
the upcoming Quasquicentennial. A small display case
for the belt buckles, and a display case for the gun.

Computer desk I built a couple years ago. Oak with a Formica top.

I built it so I could put the printer and the scanner on pull-out
shelves, as well as the tower. I wanted to keep the printer out of
the dust. I was a little concerned about having easy access to the
printer, but it works pretty good.

I also put pull-out drawers on the small side desk
to make it easier to access supplies.

I cut this with the scroll saw. I got the pattern out of a scroll saw magazine.
I also built the frame. Oak with walnut splines.

I also do what is called a scroll saw portrait. I can take a photograph

and, with the help of a photo editing program on the computer, make
a pattern I can cut out on the scroll saw. I have done several of people,
but don't feel right putting them on the Internet. However, my dog and cat
don't mind. This is one I did of our pets. I have not cut it out yet, but you
can see how the pattern works. The black on the pattern gets cut out
and the white will be the wood. I will try to get this cut out in the next
couple weeks and post it.
