The Tech
Report
|
I became fascinated with computers immediately after we purchased our first pc. It was Pentium 75 mgz with 8 megabites of ram.
I can't remember exactly what year it was, but it ran
Windows 95. I was always messing around with it and spent a lot of time
with
tech support fixing what I had messed up. But I learned a lot.
I have built several computers for myself and others over
the years. I was a little intimidated at first, but when I got involved
in the
process, it was actually quite simple. I also took an online computer repair course which also helped a lot.
The 2 computers I use the most now are my laptop-- Dell Inspiron 9400, Intel core duo T2600@ 2.16GHz, 2 gigs of DDR2-666 ram,
100 gb hard drive and a NVIDIA GeForce Go 7800 Video card
running Windows Vista. My desktop PC which I built is running
an Intel
core 2 duo 6400 overclocked to 2.67GHz, 2 gigs of CORSAIR XMS2 DDR2 800 ram, a GeForce 7900GS 256MB 256-bitVideo card.
160 mb SATA hard drive running windows XP.
There are a lot of sites I go to when I have a
computer tech question, or if I am just looking at what is new in
computer hardware,
but this is the site I like the best. It is called TheTech Report.
Online Racing
Another hobby I have (I have been told I have too many) is online racing. I have been racing online for over 10 years.
When I first started there was a subscription based service called Ten
(Total Entertainment Network). It was amazing to me that I could
race with other people from all over the United States.
After that, the game we used to race online with provided it's own
racing servers for free. Here you could join what we call a "pick-up
race".
You could sift through the available races and pick the one in which you
wanted to race. The problem with this kind of race is, at least
in the
beginning, you couldn't control who was in the race. Some people
would be there just to drive around and wreck other drivers. Because of
this, racing leagues started popping up all over. In a league you
could have a set schedule and also a password to get into the race to
keep the
wreckers out.
I joined a league that was just starting. I soon became an
administrator for the league, which involved sending out the race
notices via e-mail,
starting the server for racing, and enforcing the rules. I was on this
league for 3 years before I started getting burned out. For the
next few
years I did very little online racing.
Then about a year ago I got the itch again. There weren't as many
leagues as before, but the ones that were left had been around for a
while
and had a lot of good drivers. I joined TNT racing league last year.
The drivers are very good, and it is a great bunch of guys who are eager
to help with any problem you might have.
I only race in the Thursday night truck league as it seems to be the
only night that works for me. Also, I recently became an admin for the
Thursday night truck league. I did pretty good last year. We split our
season into two so each year there are 2 champions. I won the Spring
championship, winning 4 races in the process. I finished in the top 10
in the Fall championship. The nice thing about online racing is
that it is
cheap. TNT charges a $5 per month fee to help pay for the web site and server.
If you want to check how I am doing this year, check it out at TNT racing leagues . I will be in the 08 Chevrolet and I race under the
nickname hejlik.
